Here are a few progress and detail photos of the new Grove 2 mosaic designed by public artist Lynn Basa, destined for the Kinzie West Building in Chicago IL.
Spanning 150 sq. ft., this colorful and remarkable mosaic is comprised entirely of Byzantine smalti.

We got our smalti for this project, and the last “Grove” mosaic from Kolorines in Mexico.

have you ever used metal pieces (bronz, silver) in your mosaiks?

We have used gold veneered-tiles in some of the mosaics we have created.

What a fabulous project…I love all the colors and the grand scale. My family lives in Claremont and I’ll send them over to take photos. I’m so glad I saw this hope to see it in person some day
