18.Mar.2009 Faith Ringgold visits Mosaika’s studio!!

Faith Ringgold and the Mosaika team

On Monday, March 16th, renowned artist and author Faith Ringgold visited our studio to oversee the finishing touches on the mosaics she designed, created for the Metro Rail Civic Center station in LA.

She was gracious enough to sit down with us and show a presentation of her art throughout the years, and tell stories of her illustrious life and career.  It was truly an inspiration and honor to have her visit the studio and take the time to answer all of our questions.

Faith was born in 1930 in Harlem, NYC.  Her artistic career began more than 35 years ago.  She has exhibited her art all over the world, and is in the permanent collections of the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Solomon R Guggenheim Museum and The Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art.

She has been a professor of art at the University of California, San Diego since 1984,  and has published a dozen books, most notably Tar Beach; a childrens book based on a story quilt she created of the same name.  The original quilt is the single most requested piece in the Guggenheim Museum’s permanent collection to be loaned out for other institutions to display.  Her work is in the private collections of many influential figures; from Bill Cosby to Bill Clinton.

Please make sure to visit her website at www.faithringgold.com for more information on Faith and to view her beautiful and inspiring artworks.

Additional news, as well as a list of upcoming appearances and events can be found on her blog at www.faithringgold.blogspot.com.
