Luminous Ground, Ala Ebtekar 2021, 117.5″ x 206.25″, hand-rolled, individually cut and glaze-fired porcelain clay tiles, The College Preparatory School, Oakland CA
” Let the waters settle and you will see the moon and the stars mirrored in your own being.”
– Rumi
The imagery in “Luminous Ground” is based on photographic negatives taken by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope and shows around 7,500 galaxies spanning through more than 12 billion years of cosmic history.
This image of the cosmos on the tiles aims to create a contemplative space for students to imagine this 12 billion year sky.
