This mosaic was designed by Greta McLain of GoodSpace Murals, with contributions from Natchez Beaulieu, White Earth, and Hapistinna Graci Horne, Sisseton Wahpeton Dakota, and fabricated by Mosaika.

The work features a traditional Ojibwe floral pattern framed by Lake Superior, a variation of a Dakota Star Quilt, and a Lady of the Lake quilt pattern, a nod to the lead artist’s Scotch-Irish heritage. These textile patterns highlight the traditions of creating beauty and nurturing our families that cross cultures to connect us as Minnesotans. Monarch butterflies symbolize flight and movement, represent our immigrant communities and our continued transformation; they are our pollinators of change. Hands play cat’s cradle, again indicating our connectedness that is echoed in the constellation of the Big Dipper; guiding us north; guiding us home.
